When people show you who they are . . .

The quote goes like this" When people show you who they really are, believe them."
Many times in life we have uneasy encounters with friends, family, and acquaintances. We chock it up to a bad day or a sickness. But how many times do you think to yourself, "Wow, I wonder if this is really who this person is"? Probably not often.

I heard Oprah say this on one of her Lifeclass episodes. (If you haven't checked it out yet, I highly recommend you do!). Anyway, when she said this, it really stung and resonated with me. I kept repeating it over and over again in my head. I even told my husband (he just nodded). But boy was this true! When a loved one abuses your loyalty, trust, or love, STOP making excuses. Look at the situation closely and think whether this could potentially be his/her authentic self coming through.

Here is a simple example. A friend does something cruel to someone else and says to you "Wow, I'm a bit&*". And you probably say "No, no, they had it coming." Whether they did or didn't have it coming, she just told you who she really is...believe it.

Here is another great example. A friend of mine was dealing with a cheating boyfriend.  She made excuses and tried frantically to figure out how she was to blame for his infidelities. He cheated more than a few times so it wasn't a mistake or an accident (or whatever other excuse you can come up with). The truth of the matter is that this was who he really was. A dishonest man! He clearly showed her who he was. The rest was up to her. She quickly realized that even if she took him back, it would continue to happen because this was his true self. Before everyone gets their panties in a knot, I am completely aware of the fact that every person is different and so is every situation. However, people are ALWAYS showing us their authentic selves. We either choose to see it or not. Sometimes it is easier to avert your eyes but eventually you will have to face it.

So pay attention to what people are showing and telling you about who they really are and believe them.

Is it all a lie?

A  friend recently posted on Facebook the 5 simple rules to happiness:

1. Free your heart of hatred
2. Free your mind from worries
3. Live simply
4. Give more
5. Expect less

I responded with praise and conformity. However, I was startled to see the following post from someone I didn’t know:
“I did this for a while, all five. Here’s what happens – you lose touch. The material world’s demands eventually infringe on your peace and you realize that you cannot transcend while still attached to the world. You lose your use of goals and become bound to nothing…and the happiness becomes ignorance of all but the current moment and your passion fails. External suffering makes life move forward, finding internal happiness leads nowhere without a desire to change external circumstance, both must be in balance. Or something.” WOW was my initial response. Ignorance, yeah I guess I can see that. I mean I don’t watch the news anymore because it depresses me and drains my energy. Does that make me ignorant? If we detach ourselves from outcomes then what are we really living for? Can we be highly spiritual beings and still have goals that depend on the world? I look at Gabby and think HELL YEAH! That woman is spiritual, has goals, and success. Does that mean she is still connected to outcomes?

A few days later I had the same sort of conversation with my husband. I insisted that you can be spiritual and still have goals and live a full life. He told me I’d be living in my own world and would lose touch with reality. If I was continuously avoiding our money problems and affirming that we live in abundance (although we don’t) then I am not living in reality, right? He continued that by me changing my perception to happiness and gratitude for the things that I already have, I was acknowledging that I didn’t need anything else and therefore there was nothing to manifest and that was how I was able to achieve peace. I wasn’t actually manifesting anything. Boy, was my head spinning at this point. “I dunno,” I answered, confused

So is this whole spirituality think a lie? Are we just changing our perceptions and affirming our happiness to live in our own inner worlds while detached from the unchanged “real” world? How can I possibly manifest more money when I keep telling myself I have enough? Is manifestation actually a trick? Is the purpose to trick your mind that you already have what you want so that you live in this imaginary-esq world where you have everything? Will flooding my mind with positivity prevent horrible things from happening?? How can this possibly work. I’m starting to doubt the journey. And I don’t want to. For the first time, I was starting to feel connected to something larger and I liked the process. But is it fake?

What are your thoughts?

Day 7: Claire Zammit talks spirituality

Wow, what an amazing woman. If only we could all change our thoughts and perceptions to co-create and manifest with the universe like this woman does. A true goal in life.

First off, spirituality begins with a quest for something bigger. Many women go through a time in their lives when they are searching for something more in life and something bigger than themselves. That is what started may journey and may be the beginning of yours as well. So start by defining your current relationship to spirit. Even if you don’t have one right now, you will. For me, meditation was a wonderful way to connect to spirit and myself. It is a time for me to get quiet and really listen to what my inner wisdom has to say. It is also a way for me to connect to Gd outside of religion.

Don’t resist the opportunity to understand and connect with your inner knowing due to responsibilities, time restrictions, or other aspects of your life. This IS a very important aspect of your life. Because of such things, many of us put limitations on ourselves and what we can have. “There’s no way I can make that much money. I don’t see how I can find my soul mate at this age. I have absolutely no time to work out therefore I can’t possibly lose weight.” We begin to shut down to our deepest, inner desires because we have that mentality that we can’t have what we really want. So we start settling for other things that may not be our true calling in life and don’t make us particularly happy.

When we include spirituality in our lives we begin to open our minds to the idea that our opportunities are limitless. We can have and do anything that we want. This is a difficult concept to grasp. And I admit, I still can’t master this. But Claire says, get the HOW out of your mind. This is something that ‘The Secret’ talks about too. Don’t worry how it will happen just believe that it will. Trust that the universe is on your side and allow it to happen. Don’t stand in the way with your big fat lies and misconceptions. Listen to your inner answers. Don’t give up. If you fail, know that this was the course you were supposed to take. There is a lesson to be learned from everything you do.

“Stay faithful to your pathway because your own destiny is inevitable.” (Claire Zammit)

Day 4 continued with Karen Russo

Karen is the author of the book “The Money Keys” which is a spiritual guide in wealth creation. For Karen, money is a neutral substance. It has no meaning and no value. However, we give it meaning. Which means that we can actually give it whatever meaning we want. I am working on believing that money is everywhere. Money IS abundant for me. And therefore, I don’t need to spend another second worrying about it. It will come, it has come, I am abundant NOW. It’s hard to wrap your head around something like this but once you do only good can come of it.

Here are the three tools to escaping the money trap:
1.       Spirituality
2.       Belief
3.       Habit

Bring money into your spiritual practices. Let it show up in your meditations. And feel that you are happy, abundant, and full. Then bring your meditation to your money using affirmations and other tools. I mentioned belief in the opening paragraph and this is really important. Figure out what your true beliefs are about money and then change them to benefit yourself. Do you believe in superstitions about money? Karen says superstitions stifle creativity. They began as someone’s negative beliefs and you are adopting it as your own to your own life. Why? Create your own positive belief about money. It is what you say it is. It has to be because if not, then what would it be? Did you follow that one? You create what is.

Repeat to yourself: “The lie I’ve been telling myself is . . . Now I choose to forgive this lie and my inner wisdom says.”
For me I would say “ The lie I’ve been telling myself is that money can only come from my job. I forgive this lie and let it go. My inner wisdom is telling me that money is abundant, is everywhere, and can come from many situations” PHEW. I should write this on my mirror or something, how powerful! Make this a habit. Create good habits about money and consistent behavior.

What’s your money lie and what is your inner wisdom telling you?

Day 4: Money baby with Alexis Neely

Big Fat Lie: Money will solve all my problems. Money will make me happy. Those are all BIG FAT LIES! Surrender to the fact this is a lie and realize that you have everything that you need. She doesn’t mean a BMW and a fur Prada coat. She means a house, food, love. Alexis went from a 6 figure salary to making millions with startups. She then spent all of her savings on assets and more businesses. She has no money to fall back on in case of an emergency but she KNOWS that more money will come. She gave a few examples of when she didn’t know where the money would come for things and they magically did. You can do the same thing. Call your creditors and tell them your situation, they will compromise with you. Call the electric company and tell them you can only pay $20 this month. They will take it and keep your lights on. People need to learn to communicate without the guilt and shame. But first you have to surrender. Bankruptcy? Ok, let it happen, release it and then start over. You can only go up from there. You will have what you need to survive.

Stop worrying and know that everything will be fine. I read this quote the other day (can’t remember where) “Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows, it empties today of its joy.” AMEN. Worrying is a waste of time. Once you get to the place where you have released your negative perceptions of money, you will be in a place to receive. Make decisions from a place of abundance not from a place of scarcity. This can seem really hard but if you think about it, it’s true. Applying the law of attraction here, we know that we cannot be abundant if all we think about is how much we don’t have what we want. So Alexis says, do what ultimately makes you happy and the money will come from somewhere. There will always be enough. You just have to be in a place to receive it.

Lastly, she says, at the end of the day what you really have is your body to carry you forward. So take care of yourself! This is the most important part. You can’t take care of others if you don’t take care of yourself. And you can’t change your perceptions on money if your body is not being taken care of properly. So check your priorities. Spend extra on organic vegetables and cut out the coffee. Go out of your way to move your body for 30 minutes a day. And find 5 minutes to meditate. “If everyone took care of themselves, the world would change”. Alexis says take care of yourself, be a queen, and then you will receive. Like Lady Gaga says “I can be the queen” and so can you!
